MiningThe Australian mining industry uses in excess of 600 gigalitres of water per year and a large percentage of this water ends up contaminated and therefore requires treatment prior to discharge. The amount of water discharged into the environment in the Pilbara region for example is nearly equivalent to Perth’s total drinking water needs. If such volumes of water are not of an acceptable quality when discharged, it poses a serious environmental risk particularly in rivers, underground water reserves and the ocean. In many circumstances evaporation ponds are used in an effort to minimize the amount of water discharged however these ponds often become overfilled due rains or other unforeseen circumstances, the result of which is a discharge of highly contaminated water into the environment. Alternatively, mechanised treatment systems often produce high concentrations of contaminated water (often brackish and acidic) as a by product. In both scenarios there are no or limited further treatment options, until now. The Eco-Tabs™ biological technology is unrivaled in the mining industry in terms of the treatment of mine wastewater or brine without the need for massive capital expenditure on additional machinery. Our unique technology allows us to treat the entire body of water in a non invasive manner and has been shown to aggressively digest mine water contaminants in a manner which actually addresses the source of the problem and does not simply cover up the symptoms. In particular, the treatment process will provide significant reductions of Suspended Solids, Dissolved Solids and Acidity which are (in many cases) initial indicators of the quality of the water. The major by-product of our technology is H2O (water) and as such represents a truly sustainable solution in an industry which is often scrutinized in terms of sustainable environmental practices. We work on a case to case basis to develop the best protocol possible that will ensure the clients, environmental and government's needs are met and surpassed. |
